24th March 2007: Parish Meal
This year’s annual parish meal, to raise funds for the church, took place on Saturday 24th March and was attended by over 60 parishioners and their friends. The theme this year was ‘Black & White’ and everyone rose to the challenge with outfits ranging from flapper girls to adverts for Guinness on display. The parish room had been specially decorated (in black and white of course!) for the occasion. A fantastic four course meal followed, masterminded by Pam Martin and Chris Mitchell, with the help of an army of volunteers.
The courses were interspersed with games, a raffle and an auction to further raise money to help pay off the debt on our church. Entertainment for the event was a closely guarded secret but was soon unveiled as ‘Blessed Bob’s Blues Band’ who wowed all assembled with music from the film ‘The Blues Brothers’. The evening continued long into the night and some tired faces were in evidence the following morning due, no doubt, to the switch to British Summer Time! The amazing profit from the dinner was £1,252.20 which, together with the Barclay’s Bank sponsorship of £750 (thanks to ex-employee Kathy Jones), makes £2,002.20. Our thanks go to them and all who made the evening such a great success
