Curry Evening
7th March 2009
On Saturday the 7th March 2009 at 7.30pm, parishioners and their guests enjoyed an evening of Keralan food, culture and indian dancing courtesy of members of the Keralan community in the UK. The event was held to raise money for a Jesus Youth conference that will be held later this year. In addition to being our priest in charge, two important elements of Father Sebastian's role in the UK is to minister to the Keralan community here and to act as the pastor for the Jesus Youth movement.
The evening began with a special prayer sung by members of the Jesus Youth. A delicious meal followed consisting of several different dishes prepared and cooked by Keralan families. After the meal, members of the Jesus Youth performed two dances; one inspired by the bhangra dancing in Bollywood films and the second a more traditional indian dance. Members of the Jesus Youth then presented a powerful drama showing how earthly concerns can become a barrier between ourselves and God.
The final total raised at the event is not yet available but our thanks must go to the Jesus Youth, and the Keralan families who prepared the food for the event. Thanks must also be given to Ann Dodd who organised the event and to all who worked so hard to make the evening a great success.
