News from Father Ed in Peru
In a News Letter, received today from Fr. Ed in Peru he writes:-
“A big thank you to everyone for the fundraising, it is very much appreciated. Over the Peruvian summer months, January to March, we have been busy with Summer Schools. For three weeks in January 90 young people were studying scripture and theology methods every evening. We also had workshops in behaviour, social drama and speaking. This went very well.
In February we held an Adult Summer School for 3 weeks where they studied Bible reflection and the Latin American Bishops’ document outlining the challenge to the laity to be disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ. Following this there was a three-day workshop for the Leadership Teams on how to run the Christian communities for each of our 12 parishes.
Last weekend (1st and 2nd March 2008) there was Youth Retreat for over 80 young people where they reflected on what it meant to be disciples and missionaries of Christ and they chose which catechetical programme they would like to work in. In addition we also ran holiday programmes for over 150 children, in handicraft and painting and importantly, English and Mathematics. There was lots of singing and dancing too and everyone had a great time.
The work with the women continues to go well at Parish level and in San Benito. In March we shall begin to build the Women’s centre in San Benito.
Take care and love to all, Fr. Ed.”
